Their Platform Is Confusing – What are you even purchasing?
For someone who doesn’t know much about tech or website stuff – Godaddy is very confusing to work with when getting started. For starters, when purchasing your web hosting plan, you may be confused by all of the different options: managed WordPress hosting, Cpanel, linux, etc. Then at checkout, they attempt to “upsell” you with all kinds of extra services that you absolutely do not need – like backups, security, etc. You end up over paying for hosting services and then you aren’t really even sure what you just purchased.
For example, when one of our clients came to us with a GoDaddy plan, I saw where they had purchased the Website security plan, and it was left on the account for 2 years before it was even set up or activated. Yet, they were still paying for it! Not only that – but they accidentally purchased a plan on one of their outdated hosting services, which left their account vulnerable to hackers and, as a result, their site was hacked.
You Have to Pay for SSL
When setting up your website, you definitely need an SSL certificate to ensure the safety of your website visitors, but you shouldn’t have to pay $80 for it. You can actually install an SSL certificate for free with Let’sEncrypt through Cpanel, but not if you’re using Godaddy… You will have to pay extra.
Their Chat Support is Awful and it Takes Forever to Get Help
I have been on chat support with Godaddy for clients for literally hours of my life, and most of the time, I end up finding the solution on my own – without their help. Each time I open chat support, I am put in touch with someone in the Middle East and they are very slow to respond, ask unnecessary questions not related to the problem, only to send you a link to an article on the GoDaddy website explaining whatever issue you are having. If you aren’t very website savvy – then you are basically wasting your time with GoDaddy support, which is very inconvenient when something goes wrong with your website.
Slow Site Speeds and Longer Down Time
They boast having faster site speeds and less down time, but from personal experience I have found the opposite to be true. When comparing my client’s websites who use GoDaddy to those who do not use GoDaddy, the load time of the website is always longer. Not only that, but I’ve found that client’s sites hosted on GoDaddy have a lot more down time.
GoDaddy is all about raising their bottom line and profit margins, and do not have your best interests in mind. From personal experience, every time I get in touch with someone from GoDaddy, they are always trying to sell something or upgrade something instead of trying to actually help with an issue. You vote with your dollars, and they are so many other web hosts who are helpful and kind.
